If there’s one place we would all like to inject a bit of chill into our lives, it’s at work. A staggering 74% of the UK population feel stressed, overwhelmed, and unable to cope at times. Add to that the jittery nerves of off-and-on work returns in the times of COVID, and it’s clear that work just adds another layer of unnecessary stress. After all, we spend a lot of our lives at our place of employment.
In addition to healthy coping strategies, from therapy to eating right, getting enough sleep, and exercising, we can capitalise on the benefits of supplements, like CBD, in our quest to not just cope, but thrive in the workplace and our lives in general.
But wait, is CBD going to make you too drowsy to work? Is it going to interfere with your concentration or productivity? Can an employer fire you for using CBD oil?
Putting the question of “can I take CBD at work” aside for a moment, enjoying CBD at work might be just the change you need — the right product might even make getting focused and energised a little easier.
To understand how, let’s look at the building blocks of any CBD experience.
CBD, THC, and Other Cannabinoids
CBD is short for cannabidiol. It’s a kind of molecular compound found in cannabis called a cannabinoid. This is important to know, because there are actually many, many different cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant, including CBG, CBC, and more. One of those cannabinoids, THC, we’ll take special note of because it’s the one that can get you into big trouble in the workplace (more on that later). But unlike THC, CBD and the other cannabinoids in our CBD products are not psychoactive, meaning they won’t get you high.
CBG is a cannabinoid that can be beneficial for CBD products used at work. Cannabinoids, like CBD and CBG, interact with our bodies through the endocannabinoid system. This is a cell-signaling system that is integrated with systems, organs, and tissues throughout our bodies, including the central and peripheral nervous systems, as well as systems that regulate sleep, mood, and digestion.
When a cannabinoid interacts with a receptor in this system, it imparts certain beneficial effects. When multiple cannabinoids come together, they create what is known as the Entourage Effect. The Entourage Effect is a synergistic process in which different cannabinoids, as well as terpenes and flavonoids, interact with each other, enhancing and modifying their own effects as well as those of other cannabinoids. In other words, with the Entourage Effect, the whole is way greater than the sum of its parts.
Cannabis in the Workplace: Hemp vs. Marijuana
Yes, CBD comes from cannabis — but this does not mean your CBD product is made from marijuana. Some CBD products are made from CBD oil derived from the low-THC form of cannabis called hemp. Hemp contains less than 0.3% THC, which is non-intoxicating. The legal threshold in the UK is 0.2% THC, which means all of our CBD products have undergone an extra filtration process to remove the trace amounts of THC found in the hemp plant.
CBD at Work: Choosing the Right CBD for Your Workplace
To use CBD at work and have the best possible experience, it’s important to understand how CBD interacts with our bodies, how it interacts with other cannabinoids, and what CBD products are designed for full functionality, but still impart soothing undertones.
For instance, you certainly do not want to take the wrong type of CBD while you’re at work — especially if you’re going to have to operate machinery on the job or drive home later. CBD sleep products typically have additional ingredients like chamomile, valerian, and passion flower, and are not super conducive to a productive day at the office.
Also, if you use a CBD product that has caffeine in it, you probably don’t want to consume more caffeine on top of that … unless you consider the jitters to be a relaxing experience.
CBD, Employers, and Drug Testing
Another key factor to consider when combining CBD with work is whether you’re using broad spectrum or CBD isolate products. This is especially important if your job requires drug tests. Why?
As mentioned, all legal CBD products in the UK contain less than 0.2% CBD, which means they either contain broad spectrum CBD or CBD isolate. This is good, because in both instances all detectable amounts of THC have been removed from your product (again, as long as it is a legally compliant product).
All of this said, it is conceivable that, if you take broad spectrum CBD habitually and in large amounts, your body may retain enough of the tiny trace amounts of THC to register a false-positive result on a drug test.
So, know your company’s HR rules and know what kind of CBD you’re taking!
The Best CBD Products for the Office
All right, now that we have the basics out of the way, what CBD products do we recommend? We’ll look at six different products, including CBD tinctures, CBD gummies, and discrete CBD Vape Pens. We’re pretty sure no matter what your preference, you’ll find a product here to give you a great CBD work experience.
CBD Capsules
CBD + CBG Morning Capsules are a healthy way to start your day. They’re formulated with a combination of CBD and CBG, the other cannabinoid we mentioned above. That’s because CBG has been found to produce the perfect “get-up-and-go” feeling needed to get your day started.
In addition, we’ve included extended-release caffeine so that you can get a boost without the jitters or the crash. Sure, these capsules are a great way to start the day, but they’re also handy for that post-lunch lull.
CBD Oil Tinctures
Similarly, our CBD + CBG Wellness Tincture boasts a 2:1 ratio of CBD to CBG for a similar uplifting effect. It also features natural, wellness-boosting curcumin and coenzyme Q10.
This popular oil tincture is a favourite for people who want to work CBD into their daily routine. Plus, since tincture drops take effect more quickly than capsules, it’s an ideal go-to for CBD at work.
Tincture oils take effect more quickly, because they don’t have to be digested and metabolised before entering the bloodstream. Instead, they’re absorbed through the sublingual artery. Just hold it under your tongue for 60 seconds for optimal results.
CBD Vape Products
But the quickest way to feel the calming effect of CBD is with CBD vape products. When CBD is vaped, it enters the bloodstream through the lungs. This gives you an almost instant soothing feeling, and is great for settling your nerves. The pressures of the workplace can bring stress and anxiety, and sometimes a little slice of personal tranquility is what we need most. CBD vape pens are especially discrete and convenient, and a favourite for many CBD users. Our CBD vapes come in six delicious flavours: Strawberry Lemonade CBD Vape Pens, Blue Raspberry CBD Vape Pens, Tropic Breeze CBD Vape Pens, Fresh Mint CBD Vape Pens, Pineapple Express CBD Vape Pens, and OG Kush CBD Vape Pens.
CBD Gummies
CBD gummies may take longer to kick in than tinctures or vapes, but their effects last much longer. And who doesn’t love a gummy? While we offer a wide range of CBD gummies, there are two that are great when you want to have CBD at work.
Our original Mixed Berry CBD Gummies contain 50mg of broad spectrum CBD per serving, and nothing else. That means they deliver a pure CBD experience without anything added to make you more chill or more alert. If you’re looking for an unadulterated CBD experience, then this is your gummy.
If you’re in the market for something a little more complex, our Apple Cider Vinegar CBD Gummies have 1000mg of apple cider vinegar per serving, in addition to 50mg of CBD. We also formulate these with a healthy dose of vitamin B12 and pomegranate for natural antioxidants.
These are a staple for people who love apple cider vinegar for its multitude of benefits, and the addition of vitamin B12 keeps you on your toes.
The Final Word on CBD at Work
Whether you prefer CBD Gummies or a calming CBD Vape Pen, there’s a CBD product available for all of your work needs.
As long as you’re smart about your workplace rules and the type of CBD product you try, CBD can be an amazing supplement that makes work a little bit more enjoyable.
