CBD Gummies and Drug Testing: What You Need to Know

Share if you care

CBD gummies are extremely popular health supplements for adults in the UK. In addition to health-boosting CBD, gummies also offer the reassurance of a consistent dose with every serving, plus portability and sweet flavour.** But for some, there’s a concern: Will my CBD gummies show up on a drug test? The answer, unfortunately, is “maybe.” But you can make an informed decision when choosing a CBD product that can help prevent or, at least, lessen the chance of a positive drug test.

In this article, we’ll take a look at CBD and drug testing. We’ll examine what CBD is and the different types of CBD oil used to make CBD products. We’ll also look at some of the other factors that may affect your drug test, including your personal CBD bioavailability and the different types of drug tests.

Let’s begin with the age-old question: What is CBD?

What Is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a chemical compound produced by the cannabis plant. CBDfx products are made with a low-THC form of cannabis called hemp, which is different from high-THC marijuana. Hemp contains less than 0.3% THC and, in the UK, legal hemp products must have less than 0.2% THC.

CBD and THC are the two most abundant cannabinoids found in cannabis, though there are over a hundred others. Unlike THC, CBD is non-intoxicating. Instead, cannabidiol delivers health and wellness benefits through its interaction with the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS.)**

The ECS helps the body to maintain homeostasis, or balance. When CBD interacts with receptors in the endocannabinoid system, it boosts its performance.** This, in turn, delivers a wealth of health and wellness benefits to you!**

Full Spectrum CBD vs Broad Spectrum CBD vs CBD Isolate

There are different types of CBD oil used to make CBD products. The type of CBD oil used in your product can affect the likelihood of a positive drug test, as you’ll see in a moment.

Full-spectrum CBD is CBD oil as it is initially extracted from the hemp plant. This type of CBD oil contains all of hemp’s cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and healthy fatty acids. This includes trace amounts of THC, which can be above the legal limit in this country.

For legal compliance, we filter out detectable levels of THC, and the end result is broad spectrum CBD oil. Both full-spectrum CBD and broad spectrum CBD allow users to enjoy the Entourage Effect.** This refers to the way hemp compounds interact with one another. When taken together, CBD and other hemp compounds actually bolster one another’s effects, giving you a stronger overall CBD experience.

There is a version of CBD with no other hemp compounds present, other than the cannabidiol itself: CBD isolate. CBD isolate is 99% pure CBD. It doesn’t produce the Entourage Effect, but CBD isolate does give you the peace of mind of no THC in your bloodstream.

What Are CBD Gummies

CBD gummies are sweet CBD-infused health supplements. CBD gummies are not the same thing as regular gummy sweets. CBD-infused gummies are wellness products.**

As noted at the top of the article, many prefer CBD gummies over other CBD products because of their pre-measured servings, their portability, and their flavour (which can be much more pleasant than a CBD capsule or CBD oil tincture).

CBD Products and Drug Testing

So, where do CBD products, like gummies, land when you’re being tested for marijuana? That’s the drug test you’re likely to get in the workplace or from law enforcement. They’re testing for THC, the intoxicating compound found largely in marijuana—not CBD. Unfortunately, if you have enough hemp-derived THC in your system, you can still end up with a positive drug test.

How Long Do Cannabinoids Stay in Your System?

If you have a drug test coming up, it’s important to understand how long CBD, THC, and other cannabinoids stay in your system. This might help you plan ahead if you’re worried about potentially having a false positive test result due to build-up of THC in your system from using hemp products.

How long CBD stays in your system is somewhat dependent on your unique physiology. Factors like diet, activity level, how much water you drink, and your age can all affect how your body absorbs and processes cannabinoids, like THC. How your body processes and stores CBD and THC may differ from other people, which is worth keeping in mind when gauging how long CBD and THC remain in your system. In other words, don’t rely on your mate’s testing experience.

Types of Drug Test

There are different ways of testing for THC. Here are the types of tests generally used to detect THC and marijuana.

Urine Drug Test

Urine drug tests are the most common type of drug test. Typically, urine tests are the type of test used in the workplace. CBD, THC, and other cannabinoids remain at detectable levels in the urine for around three days. Remember, though, that this length of time can depend on your body’s unique physiology and how much CBD or THC you consume––and how often. For heavy users, cannabinoids like THC can last in the urine for up to six weeks.

Hair Test

Testing hair follicles for drugs is a little less common than other ways of testing. THC can remain in a single follicle at detectable levels for around 90 days.

Blood Test

THC and other cannabinoids can remain at detectable levels in the blood for around seven days.

Saliva Test

Saliva tests can detect cannabinoids, like THC, around 72 hours after consumption. As with the other types of testing, this can be affected by how often you use detectable amounts of THC and other cannabinoids.

Finding the Right CBD Gummies for You

While all of the CBD products we offer are legally compliant, many still contain trace amounts of THC. As you’ve seen in our section on CBD oil types, full and broad spectrum products still contain trace amounts: full spectrum much more so than broad spectrum (which contains undetectable levels of THC). If you take enough of these products, particularly with daily use, you may test positive for THC, even though you didn’t use marijuana. So, it’s vital that you understand what kind of CBD oil is being used in your gummies.
