CBD Topicals for Post-Workout Recovery & Muscle Soreness

Share if you care

Many adults incorporate CBD topicals into their post-workout routines. Popular topical CBD products, like creams, balms, bath salts, bath bombs, and many others, are designed to provide targeted relief for minor aches and pains.** But how do you tailor these products to fit your personal post-workout routine? And how do you find the best one for you among the sea of seemingly endless CBD products? First, consider your recovery and wellness needs, and then find the product that seamlessly fits into your post-workout routine.

If you’re new to hemp-derived CBD products, you might be confused about CBD topicals and how to use them. So, let’s first gain a basic understanding of CBD and how it works in topical form, and then we’ll introduce you to several popular topical CBD products!

What Is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a chemical compound in the family of cannabinoids; these are compounds native to hemp and cannabis plants. Within the past few years, we’ve discovered over a hundred different cannabinoids, like CBG, CBN, and CBC, but CBD remains one of the most abundant.

The other most abundant cannabinoid is THC, cannabis’s psychoactive molecule. Our products are derived from hemp. Naturally, hemp already has low THC levels, but we’ve added an extra step to our filtration process and whittled down our products’ THC percentages to undetectable levels.

When you enjoy CBD gummies or puff on a CBD vape, the cannabinoids from this product find their way into your bloodstream. Here, they course through your body, routinely engaging with your endocannabinoid receptors.** These receptors belong to a network called your endocannabinoid system (ECS). The ECS plays an important role in many different physiological functions like sleep, appetite, mood, and energy. When cannabinoids engage these receptors, they bolster the system’s performance, leading to a list of wellness–boosting effects.**

But your skin processes CBD topicals differently than other parts of the body.

What Are CBD Topicals?

When you apply a CBD topical onto your skin, the cannabinoids in that product don’t process through your body like other CBD products. Rather, these cannabinoids filter through your skin cells and directly into the underlying tissue. They bypass the bloodstream and avoid the ECS receptors, directly providing targeted relief to that area. So, instead of feeling CBD’s calming effects throughout your body, topicals let you pinpoint CBD’s benefits to areas you need them the most.**

Types of CBD Topicals

There are a couple of different types of topicals––each one formulated for a unique, CBD-rich experience. Choosing the right one for your routine will help you tailor the benefits of CBD to your post-workout recovery.**

CBD Creams

CBD creams are easy to apply on your skin and dry quickly, providing a variety of soothing effects in just a couple of minutes.** Our CBD lotions have a host of other healthful ingredients to complement CBD’s therapeutic properties.** For instance, we craft our Muscle & Joint CBD Creams with white willow bark and caffeine––two natural, soothing ingredients that carry their own inherent therapeutic benefits.**

We also add ingredients like menthol in our Muscle & Joint CBD Cooling Cream to give your muscles a gentle cooling sensation.** Likewise, we add camphor oil to our Muscle & Joint CBD Heating Cream to create a warming sensation to accompany CBD’s natural effects.**

CBD Balm

CBD balms rub directly onto your skin. To use them, first, remove the cap and apply the balm to the desired areas. Our Muscle & Joint CBD Balm Stick contains 750mg of hemp-derived CBD. We also carry travel-size tins with 250mg CBD. Both are easy to store in a gym bag or purse, giving you the freedom to enjoy CBD’s effects on the go!**

CBD Bath Products

Our CBD bath products are designed to let you soak in CBD’s therapeutic effects after your workout.** We offer two kinds of CBD Bath Bombs. Our Recharge CBD Bath Bomb is formulated with eucalyptus, peppermint, spearmint, and arnica to help relax your mind, body, and senses.** Our Soothing CBD Bath Bomb uses essential oils, like lavender and skin-softening Hawaiian black salt, to ease tension within your mind and body.

We also carry CBD Bath Salts formulated with either lavender or peppermint essential oils and mineral-rich Celtic sea salt. Add these to a bath for a little DIY spa-day experience after your workout.

Tips on Using a CBD Topical for Muscle Soreness

So, now that you know the differences between each type of topical CBD product, how do you add them to your post-workout routine? First, apply a small amount of your chosen topical to your target area every few hours. This will help you maintain relief for minor aches and pain. We’ve also designed our CBD lotions and balms in travel-sized containers and bottles, so you can easily take them in a gym bag.

After your workout, apply a little cream or balm to your target area and let it air dry. If clothes typically cover this area, wait to cover it until it’s fully dried. This extra step will allow the cannabinoid-rich topical to seep through your skin barrier and into the target tissue, where it’ll work to quiet minor aches and pains.**

You can also apply CBD topicals before your workout. Doing so gives you a headstart on your post-workout muscle recovery.**

Below is a list of our CBD topicals and their strengths. If you’re new to topical CBD products, it might be best to start with a lower strength and work your way up.

CBD Oil: An Alternative to Topical CBD

If you’re interested in another popular CBD product for your post-workout routine, check out our collection of CBD tinctures. Tinctures go under your tongue. This is called sublingual administration. When you hold the oil under your tongue, the cells in your mouth absorb the cannabinoids and filter them into your bloodstream, where they go on to engage your ECS receptors. CBD tincture bottles come with a dropper attached to the lid, which helps you accurately measure out a dose.

Because they’re easy to take and offer a host of wellness-boosting benefits for the mind and body, tinctures are a great addition to any pre- or post-workout routine!
