Millions of people throughout the UK use CBD daily, but is there such thing as too much CBD?

With CBD, consistency is key. However, there’s a fine line between regular use and over doing it.

CBD products are delicious and this can make it challenging to restrain yourself. From gummies and tinctures to tea and coffee, there is a bounty of tempting products that have a tendency to make people over-indulge.

Though it’s impossible to overdose on CBD, there’s a limit to how much you should take. This limit is different for everyone and it may take some experimenting to find what works for you.

Finding your balance with CBD is important. When you find the perfect serving-size and maintain a CBD regimen, you allow your body to access its full range of benefits.

However, if you go overboard, you might notice that your CBD isn’t working like it used to.

What is CBD and How Is It Made?

An oil dropperBefore figuring out what happens when we push our limits, it’s important to first understand the basics.

CBD is an abbreviation for cannabidiol. This phytocannabinoid is found in various cannabis species but is predominantly extracted from hemp.

Marijuana and hemp are both types of cannabis and contain similar lists of compounds but in different concentrations.

While marijuana is notoriously rich in THC, hemp has particularly high concentrations of CBD.

There are different ways to extract the desired compounds from the hemp plant. Some companies use butane or ethanol, but CO2 extractions are considered the best. CO2 doesn’t leave any residue in the final product and it’s highly effective in capturing and extracting CBD.

Once the CBD has been extracted it’s diluted to the perfect potency with MCT oil, sent to third-party labs for testing, and infused into the products we all know and love.

Why is CBD So Hard to Resist?

A man taking a CBDfx tincturePeople who overdo it with CBD usually do so on without even realizing it.

There aren’t any physical repercussions for eating too much CBD, so there’s no indication that you’ve had more than you should’ve.

CBD gummies are one of the easiest products to over-indulge in.

Seriously, who has the self-control to stop at two gummies?

When people buy a bag of non-CBD gummies they usually eat a handful. This instinct can take over and have you eating 4 or 5 CBD gummies at a time without taking notice!

While ultimately there isn’t any problem with eating a bunch of CBD gummies, you may develop a tolerance even faster. CBD products are highly enjoyable, but you should try to stay regimented in the amount you eat.

This will help you consistently access the benefits of CBD.

Is CBD Toxic?

It’s hard to understand your limits with CBD due to the fact that these products are non-toxic.

Alcohol is extremely toxic in high doses and presents very clear indications when you’ve overdone it. You can’t overdose on CBD, nor will it make you sick like alcohol. The only way to tell that you’ve been using too much CBD is when it’s not working anymore. In comparison to substances like alcohol, there’s no such thing as overdosing on CBD.

Studies have shown that CBD is completely non-toxic even in extremely high doses.

What Are the Physical and Psychological Effects of CBD?

A woman drinking coffee on her bedOne of the fascinating things about it is that it affects everyone differently. Some people use these products to help them sleep and others find that it helps in social situations.

Though CBD affects everyone in unique ways, there are some effects that users commonly report feeling. Oftentimes people say they feel calm and clear-headed. Many say it helps them get more restful sleep. One of the most famous stories about cannabidiol’ss benefits is that of Charlotte Figi.

Charlotte was born with Dravet syndrome and experienced 300 grand mal seizures per week. Pharmaceutical treatments weren’t working so her parents turned to hemp. When Charlotte started using CBD, her seizures decreased from 300 per week to just a couple per month.

Though scientists have not yet been able to articulate all of the benefits associated with CBD, stories like Charlotte’s are all the proof people need. Hemp affects everyone differently, so trying it for yourself is the only way to know what works for you. These products are 100% non-toxic and non-intoxicating so there is no danger in taking a heavy amount of it.

Too Much of a Good Thing

CBD is great, but it’s still possible to have too much of a good thing.

Sitting around and eating handfuls of gummies is indeed a lovely experience, but when you do indulgent things like this you throw off your regimen.

Consistency is key. One of the things people often miss about this concept is that consistent serving size doesn’t mean minimum serving size. If you usually take 20mg of it twice daily, but suddenly eat 500mg at once, your 20mg serving won’t be as effective.

Situations Where CBD Might Be a Bad Choice

A stack of booksSome situations call for you to be anything but calm. Maybe you’re an adrenaline junkie, or an E.M.T. Both of these endeavors require you to be alert and ready to go at all times.

While it’s good to keep a clear head and be relaxed to some degree, being overly-calm probably isn’t the best idea.

People love the calming effects of the cannabinoid. It’s one of the compound’s biggest selling points and many products are designed specifically for this purpose. Though it provides a wealth of benefits, there’s a time and place for everything.

Developing a Tolerance is Inevitable

The biggest repercussion from taking a lot of CBD is the tolerance you develop. Though this happens more rapidly to those who consume too much, it’s inevitable for all CBD users.

When you take the same serving of cannabidiol for an extended period of time your body will eventually get used to it. This doesn’t mean its lost all effect, but it won’t work as well as it previously did.

It can be tricky to know when to increase your intake. There are no clear indications other than noticing that it’s not as effective.

Don’t worry, there are solutions for the inevitable time when you develop a tolerance.

How to Deal With Developing a Tolerance

Whether you’ve been over-consuming CBD or your regular serving has stopped working, developing a tolerance can be frustrating.

Many people double their serving size when their tolerance has increased, but there are more efficient solutions.

Instead of increasing your serving size, increase the potency of the cannabidiol you’re using. Doubling your serving size means that you consume twice the amount of product every time. When you utilize more potent products you can stick to the same serving size while enjoying a higher concentration.
